Artist Statement

Play of Light

I am fascinated with the play of light. I love to experiment with light in my paintings and photographs. I love how light transforms the everyday into the magical and how light and shadow can play tricks with your imagination.

Years ago I took a photography class from Ruth Bernhard. She told me three things that stuck with me to this day: stay close to home, the subject is light, and only take color photos if color is one of the subjects. I have found that this advice works just as well for painting as it does for photography. I love to find interest and beauty in what is around me every day. I am fascinated by the movement of light and I love to play with color.
